Forget unpleasant fish burps! It's amazing. It's great for anyone but especially for people who do not have that strong stomach and digestion. Do you feel that your stomach does not produce enough HCL, and/or your health issues are related to low pH in your stomach (causing bad digestion, fermentation, GERD, SIBO, bad absorption of the nutrients, allergies, arthritis and many other conditions), but you are afraid of trying ACV, Betaine HCL, and the tests like Heidelberg pH capsule is not available to you? If so, you can try an Enteric coated fish oil capsule test that I suggested to be a novel and quick test to ASSUME (not diagnose!) if your stomach HCL production is not very low. This is my rationale. Each enteric coated capsule is expected to be degraded in neutral pH (i.e. 7) as encountered in the small intestine. The pH of a stomach varies, from 1-2 up to 4-5. When a stomach does not produce enough HCl because of a health condition, or any other condition causing a raise of the pH above this range (e.g. administration of antacids, H2 blockers, PPIs, bile reflux, etc.), an enteric coating of the capsule would dissolve prematurely, i.e. in the stomach instead of small intestine. Although it has been reported that some marketed capsules can be rapidly degraded at pH 5.5 already but this still would be over the normal range of the stomach pH. This is giving enough credit for this test being reliable in this assessment. If you have GERD symptoms it is possible that you might experience fish burps after taking the capsule. The lower your stomach HCl production is, the sooner you would burp fish. GERD usually means low stomach acid. And low stomach acid is a trigger for many serious health problems as it messes up the whole GI tract and digestion. Premature degradation and release of a fish oil capsule content in the stomach would assess indirectly if the pH falls under the normal range. If you burp later on, e.g. after 1 hr. it might indicate that you have issues with bile reflux, i.e. a condition when the content of your duodenum is getting back to the stomach together with the bile. I have experiences with both issues so I based this theory on my own health observations.
